Edan Fergal
Character Profile
The three words that hold the most importance to Edan are duty, honor and family. Like most Corellians, Edan puts family before everything else. Family is what led to his defection from the Empire and family was the biggest influence on his life. Edan extends his family to those he cares about around him. Friends who have gotten close to him are treated like brothers and sisters.
Edan feels that it is his duty to fight the Empire with everything he has. He sacrificed any idea of a quiet life, a nice house and being able to create a large family. He feels that its his duty to give his family a future, a future without the empire. His sense of duty is only strengthen by his sense of honor, given to him by his father and enhanced by his career as a military officer.
Despite being a military officer, Edan is very comfortable with his crew and is seen as a very relaxed person, even under the stress of battle. He finds that a calm word in a storm of chaos is more effective than any Drill Sargent barking orders. To outsiders, he seems very shy, and he has multiple layers on him which he rarely removes except to those who grow close to him. He enjoys being flirtatious and playful when off duty. His fault with this is that many people classify him as shallow on first glance, as he is overly playful and flirtatious to overcompensate for his shy personality.
While being the son of the senator from Corellia, Edan tries to avoid politics when he can. He has seen too many instances where politics and military goals clash and the compromise is to send young men to die for a political goal with no military value. While he has some of his father's abilities to negotiate when its needed, Edan prefers to leave such things to those who enjoy it. He understands the nessessity of politics to grease the wheels of civilization, but strongly believes in the separation of powers which leaves the military out of political maneuvering.
Biography
Corellia and Growing Up
Edan was born as the first son to (father's name here) and {mother's name here) Fergal. The son of the senator of Corellia, Edan was thrown into the spotlight at an early age. His father did his best to protect his family from the media, cutting off media access to his sons and daughters and making all media events being outside of the house.
Edan received exceptional schooling, first due to the fact his father had so many political connections. Many schools wanted to accept Edan as it would carry favor with {father's name) Fergal. It was discovered early on though that Edan was not just a rich politician's son, he was a prodigy in his own right. While Edan was extremely good in the field of mathematics and science, he choose to spend a lot of time studying the history of Corellia. Part of this came from the pleasure of a subject that he didn't intuitively grasp as easily as other things. All through his career as a student, Edan spent a large majority of his time learning and studying. Being a senators son, there weren't many children his age outside of his family to interact with. Until he moved out of the house and into a preparation school, he was a very introverted child who spent his time either constructing or reading.
The Imperial Academy
Edan followed in his father's footsteps and joined the military academy. He made the choice based on a number of decisions. Like his father, he believed it was his duty to serve the people of Corellia. He also listened to his father and believed it was better to try and change the system from the inside, rather than try and force change from the outside. He also felt that the military would continuously challenge him, something which he sought above everything else.
During his time in the military academy, Edan truly was able to see what the Empire was about. It was here that Edan experienced the elitism and racism that flowed through the veins of the empire. In his mind though, Edan hardened himself against these influences. He found other students in the academy who were just as shocked as he was at certain attitudes and views of the Imperial military. Through his time in the academy, Edan made sure to win the respect of his instructors through his tactical and combat abilities, not wanting to play the political and social games that many recruits played to jockey for position. While not the greatest physical fighter, Edan did develop a very high proficiency with blaster pistols. His reflexes and coordination demonstrated by his pistol proficiency had him orginally slated to go into star fighter command. Two things stopped Edan though. First was the Empire's number one fighter craft. The TIE Fighter. It was fast, but had no shields and no hyper drive. While Edan appreciated the speed and maneuverability of these craft, they seemed to push for swarm type tactics of TIE fighters overwhelming an enemy. Second, Edan saw a lack of advancement through this area of command. Few people ever transferred out of SFC to lead a fleet or captain a ship, and Edan could feel thats where he truly belonged.
